Firstly we had trouble with our technology....we hadn’t recorded the tracks onto CD properly and so the CD wouldn’t play on certain machines...but when they did, even at the highest volume they were to quiet to hear....

There was a positive to this though. It meant that everyone gathered round the CD player and listened intently...

All the students were happy with the pieces...many were embarrassed at first but in the end were proud of what they had done.

The students also filled out evaluation documents about the project and it was genuinely positive feedback, with many of them saying that they would do it again!

At the initial time of writing all mentioned media were interested in the project

The Falmouth Packet were interested in the project but i havent heard any more..

BBC Radio Cornwall were short staffed at the time of recording...but i am waiting for a reply to see what we can do in the future..maybe air the stories?

The newspaper which took the most interest was the West Briton. They sent down a photographer on Friday 20th January 2006......

in the edition dated 26/1/2006 their is an article about the project...page 22!

So as ive said to most people go out an get it !!!!

 Comments

The Recording Session....

These sessions have been the most exciting part of the project for the students...its concludes many week of hard work.....
In these session (which took place Friday 20th January 2006 and Wednesday 25th January 2006) the students from the college were recording the narration for there stories up at the Tremough media centre recording studio. Luckily we had split the class into two recording sets...which meant on each day we recorded 3 stories.
The students seemed nervous at first but as the session went one they opened up and had a great time...with many saying that they wanted to come back and do it again!
It was a great ending for us to see that they were enjoying the project and they seemed to be getting a lot from the project....we will just have to see their reaction when we play them the finished products!

 Comments

Lets Get the Press Involved....

This porject has provided a much needed link between University College Falmouth and Penryn College...so i thought it would be apt to get some press coverage if it...

I contacted two local papers who might be doing it...this includes the Falmouth Packet and The West Briton.

I also contacted BBC Radio Cornwall...

This should be exciting for one and all...and definalty some positive press for the students of University College Falmouth!

Lets See What happens...

Wednesday 11th January 2006
This was our first lesson with the students...we were all quite nervous about it, but as it began we all relaxed.
In this lesson our main objective was to explain the project, decides who's story was going to be used, and start up the script writing process.....as with all we planned operation things never always go to plan.... it was hard at first to motivate the students with the project because at this stage we were teaching in a traditional style which the do not really like. But the enthusiastic students got one really well with the project.
After the lesson in our debrief we decided that some groups needed to be changed around so that we could get the best results and make the students more relaxed.
When the lesson had finished there was a big sigh of relief from all of our group members...as we are not used to teaching year 10 students....but even with our problems we could see that there was some great potential with the students.

Friday 13th January 2006
Even though the date of this lesson could have spelt out disaster...it didn’t.
Our objective for this lesson was to carry on with the script rights and produce a sound effects list
In this lesson we found that it was easier to get into the project...the group itself became smaller and so more time was spent helping the students.
We found that because of the smaller group there was more development of the scripts...and in some cases completion of the work!!!
We were all more relaxed about the project as well....and at the end of the lesson we all left with a smile on our faces as things had gone so well...

Wednesday 18th January 2006
This lesson was the lesson we were most looking forward to!! Recording the sound....
This was the lesson where the students recorded the sounds for the radio drama. We let the students have mini disk players...a mic and headphone....

The students loved this!!! We let them loose around the college to use there imagination to get the sound they needed....a lot of imagination was used...including hitting lockers to get the sound of rain....or being hit by a car.
We also used my car to get the sounds they wanted.

The students all seemed to really enjoy this...and it was great for us to see that they were gaining a lot from this project...and so were we.

Our next lesson would be the recording of the stories...which at the time we are looking forward to!!!

 Comments

The Project.......

Firstly I think I should explain about the intentions of this project and what its for.......

This is a community project which has been undertaken as part of my university degree in broadcasting. The aim of the project is to further the aim of a community group or organisation by offering our media experience.

The project that I have undertaken with other members of my course is in conjunction with the Penryn College Flexible Learning Scheme. The students are in yr 10, and are part of the scheme as they have dropped some GCSE subjects to undertake works experience or to learn a skill at college.

With the students are making radio dramas. The students have written stories about being followed and we are turning these stories into radio dramas. We are helping the students turn the stories into scripts which then we will find sounds for...either the actual sound or foli.

We are taking the students to the state of the art recording studio at our campus where they will record the narration for the stories......

After we have added the sounds they will be radio dramas....which in the end might be broadcast on the radio!

I will update this blog to say how this project is going....so enjoy!

 Comments
